Sealing-ring is a device used to prevent the leakage of liquids or gases, usually made of elastic materials, and has a sealing effect. The selection of materials is of great significance for their sealing performance and service life, and the performance of materials directly affects the performance of sealing rings.

Precautions

  1. Clean the installation location;
  2. Remove burrs during the installation process of sealing components;
  3. Apply lubricant on the seal;
  4. Protect the sealing surface from damage;
  5. Verify and confirm that the size of the seal is correct;
  6. Use appropriate tools to install seals that require deformation installation.

Material Applications

1.NBR nitrile rubber sealing ring: suitable for use in petroleum hydraulic oil, glycol hydraulic oil, diester lubricating oil, gasoline, water, silicone grease, silicone oil and other media. It is the most versatile and cost-effective rubber seal. Not suitable for polar solvents such as ketones, ozone, nitro hydrocarbons, MEK, and chloroform. The general temperature range for use is -40~120 ℃.

2.HNBR hydrogenated nitrile rubber sealing ring: It has excellent corrosion resistance, tear resistance, and compression deformation resistance, and has good resistance to ozone, sunlight, and weather. Better wear resistance than nitrile rubber. Suitable for washing machinery, automotive engine systems, and refrigeration systems using the new environmentally friendly refrigerant R134a. Not recommended for use in alcohol, ester, or aromatic solutions. The general temperature range for use is -40~150 ℃.

3.SIL silicone rubber sealing ring: It has excellent heat resistance, cold resistance, ozone resistance, and atmospheric aging resistance. Has excellent insulation performance. But its tensile strength is inferior to that of ordinary rubber and it does not have oil resistance. Suitable for household appliances such as electric water heaters, irons, microwaves, etc. It is also suitable for various products that come into contact with the human body, such as water bottles, water dispensers, etc. Not recommended for use in most concentrated solvents, oils, concentrated acids, and sodium hydroxide. The general temperature range for use is -55~250 ℃.

4.VITON fluorine rubber sealing ring: It has better high temperature resistance than silicone rubber, excellent weather resistance, ozone resistance, and chemical resistance, but poor cold resistance. It has resistance to most oils and solvents, especially acids, aliphatic hydrocarbons, aromatic hydrocarbons, and animal and vegetable oils. Suitable for sealing requirements of diesel engines, fuel systems, and chemical plants. Not recommended for use in ketones, low molecular weight esters, and mixtures containing nitrate. The general temperature range for use is -20~250 ℃.

5.FLS fluorosilicone rubber sealing ring: Its performance combines the advantages of fluorosilicone rubber and silicone rubber, with excellent oil resistance, solvent resistance, fuel oil resistance, and high and low temperature resistance. Can resist the erosion of oxygen-containing compounds, aromatic solvents, and chlorine containing solvents. Generally used for aviation, aerospace, and military purposes. It is not recommended to expose to ketones and brake fluid. The general temperature range for use is -50~200 ℃.

6.EPDM EPDM sealing ring: It has good weather resistance, ozone resistance, water resistance, and chemical resistance. Can be used for alcohols and ketones, as well as for sealing in high-temperature water vapor environments. Suitable for bathroom equipment, car radiators, and car brake systems. Not recommended for food use or exposure to mineral oil. The general temperature range for use is -55~150 ℃.

7.CR chloroprene rubber sealing ring: It has excellent resistance to sunlight and weather. Not afraid of refrigerants such as dichlorodifluoromethane and ammonia, resistant to dilute acids and silicone grease lubricating oils, but has a large expansion in mineral oils with low aniline points. Easy to crystallize and harden at low temperatures. Suitable for various environments that come into contact with the atmosphere, sunlight, ozone, and sealed environments that are resistant to combustion and chemical corrosion. Not recommended for use in strong acids, nitro hydrocarbons, esters, chloroform, and ketones. The general temperature range for use is -55~120 ℃.

8.IIR butyl rubber sealing ring: It has excellent air tightness, heat resistance, sun resistance, ozone resistance, and good insulation performance; Has good resistance to polar solvents such as alcohols, ketones, esters, etc., and can be exposed to animal and vegetable oils or oxidizable substances. Suitable for chemical resistant drugs or vacuum equipment. It is not recommended to use it together with petroleum solvents, kerosene, or aromatic hydrocarbons. The general temperature range for use is -50~110 ℃.

9.ACM acrylic rubber sealing ring: It has excellent resistance to oil, high temperature resistance, and weather resistance, but its mechanical strength, compression deformation rate, and water resistance are slightly poor. Generally used in automotive transmission systems and power steering systems. Not suitable for hot water, brake oil, and phosphate esters. The general temperature range for use is -25~170 ℃.

10. NR natural rubber sealing ring: It has good wear resistance, elasticity, tensile strength, and elongation. But it is prone to aging in the air, becomes sticky when exposed to heat, expands and dissolves easily in mineral oil or gasoline, and is resistant to alkali but not strong acid. Suitable for use in automotive brake fluid, ethanol, and other liquids containing hydroxide ions. The general temperature range for use is -20~100 ℃.

11.PU polyurethane rubber sealing ring: Polyurethane rubber has excellent mechanical properties, with wear resistance and high pressure resistance far superior to other rubbers. The aging resistance, ozone resistance, and oil resistance are also quite good, but it is prone to hydrolysis at high temperatures. Generally used for high-pressure and wear-resistant sealing components, such as hydraulic cylinders. The general temperature range for use is -45~90 ℃.

12. Metal rubber sealing ring: made of stainless steel wire, does not contain any rubber components, and has strong usage characteristics. For example, maintaining normal operation in high vacuum, high and low temperature, strong radiation, and various corrosive environments. The sealing ring skin is made of different materials such as stainless steel, copper, polytetrafluoroethylene, etc., depending on the purpose. The covered metal rubber component serves as the lining core, which has the advantages of high sealing strength, good effect, and reusability. The sealing ring liner is a component made of different metal wire diameters and densities, suitable for different pressure applications. The general usage range is -80~800 ℃. This type of sealing ring is relatively expensive due to its high cost. However, its excellent performance and wide range of usage environments have been unanimously recognized by people.


Performance

In addition to the general requirements for sealing ring materials, the sealing ring should also pay attention to the following conditions:

(1) rich elasticity and resilience;

(2) Appropriate mechanical strength, including expansion strength, elongation, and tear resistance.

(3) Stable performance, not easily swollen in the medium, and small thermal shrinkage effect (Joule effect).

(4) Easy to process and maintain precise dimensions.

(5) Non corrosive contact surface, non polluting medium, etc.

The most suitable and commonly used material to meet the above requirements is rubber, so o rings are mostly made of rubber material. There are many types of rubber, and new rubber varieties are constantly emerging. When designing and selecting, it is important to understand the characteristics of each type of rubber and make a reasonable choice.

Categories

It is an elastic rubber sealing ring with axial action, used for non pressure sealing of rotating shafts. The sealing lip has good mobility and adaptability, can compensate for large tolerances and angular deviations, can prevent internal grease or oil from leaking out, and can also prevent external splashing or dust from entering.

Commonly used for manufacturing reciprocating seals in hydraulic systems. Widely used for sealing hydraulic cylinders in construction machinery.

Mainly used for static sealing and reciprocating motion sealing. When used for rotary motion sealing, it is limited to low-speed rotary sealing devices.

  •  Rectangular sealing ring

Generally installed in a groove with a rectangular cross-section on the outer or inner circle for sealing purposes.

Widely used in reciprocating motion sealing devices.
In addition, there is a spring tension (spring energy storage) sealing ring, which is a spring added to PTFE sealing material, including O-ring, V-spring, and U-spring.

The sealing ring has excellent sealing performance and high working life. The dynamic pressure sealing has a working life 5-10 times longer than conventional rubber sealing products, and can reach up to tens of times longer. Under certain conditions, it can have the same life as the sealing substrate.
The friction resistance of the sealing ring is small, and the dynamic and static friction forces are equal, which is 1/2-1/4 of the friction force of the "0" - shaped rubber ring. It can eliminate the "crawling" phenomenon of movement at low speeds and low pressures.
The sealing ring is highly wear-resistant and has an automatic elastic compensation function after the sealing surface wears out.
The sealing ring has good self-lubricating performance and can be used for oil-free lubrication sealing.
The sealing ring has a simple structure and is easy to install.
Working pressure of sealing ring: 0-300MPa; Working speed: ≤ 15m/s; Working temperature: -55-250 ℃.

Advantage

  1. The sealing ring should have good sealing performance within a certain range of working pressure and temperature, and can automatically improve its sealing performance with the increase of pressure.
  2.  The friction between the sealing ring device and the moving parts should be small, and the friction coefficient should be stable.
  3.  The sealing ring has strong corrosion resistance, is not easy to age, has a long working life, good wear resistance, and can automatically compensate to a certain extent after wear.
  4.  The structure is simple, easy to use and maintain, giving the sealing ring a longer lifespan.

Install and Usage

Precautions for installing and using sealing rings:

(1) Cannot install in the wrong direction and damage the lip edge. If there are scars of 50 μ m or more on the lips, it may lead to obvious oil leakage.

(2) Prevent forced installation. It cannot be hammered in, but a special tool should be used to press the sealing ring into the seat hole first, and then a simple cylinder should be used to protect the lip edge through the spline part. Before installation, apply some lubricating oil to the lips to facilitate installation and prevent burns during initial operation. Pay attention to cleanliness.

(3) Prevent overdue use. The service life of rubber seals for dynamic sealing is generally 3000-5000 hours, and new sealing rings should be replaced in a timely manner.

(4) The size of the replacement sealing ring should be consistent. Strictly follow the instructions and use sealing rings of the same size, otherwise the required tightness cannot be guaranteed.

(5) Avoid using old sealing rings. When using a new sealing ring, it is also necessary to carefully inspect its surface quality to ensure that there are no defects such as small holes, protrusions, cracks, and grooves, and that it has sufficient elasticity before use.

(6) When installing, all parts of the hydraulic system that have been opened should be strictly cleaned first, preferably using specialized tools to prevent sharp metal edges from scratching fingers.

(7) When replacing the sealing ring, it is necessary to strictly inspect the groove of the sealing ring, remove dirt, and polish the bottom of the groove.

(8) To prevent oil leakage caused by damage, it is necessary to operate according to the regulations, and at the same time, the machine cannot be overloaded for a long time or placed in a relatively harsh environment for operation.
