DESIGN & ENGINEERING PROCESS -We always strive to initiate contact early and maintain active dialogue to show our responsiveness, seriousness, and responsibility as a sealing partner. Many customers will contact us via email, phone, or through text message. If your project requires it, we are also willing to sign and agree to non-disclosure agreements to protect sensitive and confidential information. We gather as much information as possible to gain a deeper understanding of the project. Is it a new design? Is it in existing production where current design is having issues? We aim to get any available pre-generated drawings or prints of the project that could be applicable and gather all application details. Most importantly, we need to find out "what problem are we trying to solve?"
THE FIRST STEP -We pride ourselves on giving strong initial recommendations for successful sealing designs. We begin our process by documenting these crucial specifications: Temperature range /Fluids /Media /Pressure /Speed. Some applications require contact with food products or drinking water. Sometimes a cleaning cycle is required that utilizes chemicals and temperatures vastly different than the operating conditions. We ask that you provide all pertinent information you have surrounding your project, and we will be sure to communicate if further details are needed. Once we’ve compiled all application details, we will then decide if one of our leading industry partners is the best fit for the project or if our in-house production capabilities are an option. We consult factory engineering resources for design proposals.

Dynamic Sealing or Static? temperatures seal is expected to see Fluid /Media we are sealing against /Pressure. any size restraints of the housing or surfaces we are sealing on/against. Volumes expected (Might affect method of manufacture), lead time that a solution might be needed within (Both prototype or production - this could potentially affect method of manufacture)
COMMUNICATION PROCESS -All communication is timely and professional - we pride ourselves on that. In some cases, designs can be addressed with an initial proposal; but most require an ongoing dialogue between engineering groups and will go through several different rounds of prototyping and testing. DMB SEAL can supply engineered drawings for customers as well as short turn prototypes for design evaluation. We can also provide quotes, drawings, failure analysis, reports, FEAs and PPAPs. We pride ourselves on our team’s thorough onsite visits to our customers and the tools we utilize for installation.
CORE PRINCIPLES DEFINE YOUR SEALING SOLUTION -The design process can be different for different industries, but it really revolves around the same principles of sealing: Speed /Temperature /Fluid /Media /Pressure. Once you understand the operating parameters, the sealing solution is likely to be the same no matter what the industry is (outside of any special FDA/NSF etc. regulations). generally speaking, different industries do have different challenges. chemical processing might be associated with potential elevated temps and aggressive media whereas a hydraulic lift cylinder is going to be a completely different set of challenges. PROTOTYPING & MANUFACTURING -Prototyping shouldn’t be a bottleneck. With our process, we can move quickly from the prototyping phase to manufacturing to ensure you have the product you need to keep moving. Regardless of if your application requires a size, shape, or material you simply can’t find anywhere else, DMB SEAL has the answer.
PROTOTYPING & MANUFACTURING PROCESS -With our CNC machining capabilities, we can produce prototypes in just a few days. Once approved, we can progress from prototyping into production. We then work with one of our trusted suppliers to produce a mold, a process that usually takes four to six weeks. Then the customer prototype testing phase begins and that can last anywhere from several weeks to a year or longer. To give you some perspective, we recently received approval for a prototype that had been in beta testing for two and a half years. The duration of the testing period is largely dependent upon the priorities of the customer. After sample approval, a typical production tool lead time is eight to ten weeks. After that, full production can be launched.
PRODUCTION TIMELINE-The length of the production timeline is largely affected by lead times in mold and tool shops, lead times and availability of material at our supplier partners, available test stand time at the customer; and receiving reliable, accurate, and timely testing data and feedback from the customer.
